So long story short -- I totaled my car in an accident which was my fault back in December, and unfortunately did not have collision coverage on my insurance policy. I am a full-time student and have been unable to afford purchasing another car since then, and do not know when I will be able to afford another car. Although I am now without a vehicle I have been reluctant to cancel my insurance policy because I was told that if I did, whenever I purchased another car and had to buy insurance again the price of it would skyrocket because I would be considered high risk for having a chronological gap in my coverage. So basically I am currently paying $80 a month for car insurance when I do not even have a car, just to avoid having it go up even more at some point in the unknown future after I buy another car. Is this worth it or would it be wiser to just go ahead and cancel my policy? Asked by: hyphenga-ga I recently responded to an e-mail for a free auto insurance price quote (I'm in California). I wasn't really looking to shop around - and wasn't planning to switch companies to save a buck or two, but I was kinda shocked when the price quote I got from Unitrin Direct (same coverage limits and deductibles) was $510 less than I'm paying now. I called and asked what the catch was and they said they sell direct with no agents/offices and pass the savings onto the customer (logical, but obviously scripted answer). They also touted an A.M. Best Excellent rating, but what good is financial stability if they bungle claims (for example) or have terrible customer service? So I guess I'm looking for a little confidence - or a big fat warning - before I jump into anything. Are they reputable? Is there any objective info available about them? (I'd love any good/bad comments from Unitrin customers out there too.)

Getting out of a speeding ticket for insurance purposes?

Is there a way I can get out of a speeding/failure to meet at a stop sign ticket? I really don't care about paying the ticket or court costs at all, but I just can not, really, really, can not pay the extra insurance money. I am paying out of state tuition AND I am in Architecture. Architecture is SUCH an expensive major. The police officer (whose name I can't even read on the ticket because it is just a scribble) gave me a ticket for speeding and failure to stop at a stop sign. I have always been a great driver, I never speed, I always stop at stop signs, I don't drink/text/talk over the phone and drive, I always have my seatbelt on. This one time I absolutely needed to get home at 2am I decide to go a little faster and yup, of course I get a ticket. I don't want to lie, I was doing 36 on a 20 zone at the time, I admit it even though I honestly did not realize I was going at 36 I didn't' do it on purpose. I didn't think hey I'm just gonna go faster because no one is around , I really honestly did not notice I was going at 36. But I am not sure about the stop sign thing. Honestly I was not paying much attention because I drive through this stop sign everyday but I distinctly remember there was a car already at the stop sign coming from the left so I HAD to stop. There was absolutely no one else coming from any of the four sides, so I might have not stopped completely but I did slow down almost to a stop and then kept going. Then like I said I was going at 36 on a 20 zone. This was at 2 a clock in the morning when there was literally not a soul around. The police officer was practically hiding in a dark, empty parking lot and came out of no where. I really don't want to make excuses for myself. I know what I did was wrong and I'll admit it. But this is my first ticket, and I really don't want t have to pay so much more money on my insurance for a slip as small as this one. My boyfriend was with mi in the car if that means anything. I really don't know, I've never had a ticket before. I've been reading up on how to get out of a ticket, and a lot of people say it is good to talk to the officer, and I thought about doing it but the officer's name is not readable at all. He also completely misspelled my name. In Puerto Rico we use both my father's and mother's last names so I have two last names. Let's say my name is X, my father's last name is Y and my mother's is Z. In Puerto Rico it goes like X Y Z and since my license is from Puerto Rico that is how it is written in my license. But the police officer wrote X Z. So my name is wrong in the ticket. I don't know if that counts for anything, someone told me that if they misspell my name or the officer's it means the ticket is dropped. USAA insurance rates from traffic ticket?

I received a traffic ticket for following too closely and was clocked at 17mph going through town. The car in front of me had pulled away from the stoplight and was clearly not interested in speeding up, so I had to speed up some to signal into the adjoining lane to pass him. This was during rush hour, so traffic was pretty heavy. The cop pulled me over and cited me for following too closely which carries a $115 fine. He asked me why I thought he pulled me over, and I honestly had no idea what I did wrong. Unfortunately, he would not concede to a simple warning and cited me anyway. I also received a ticket about 11 months ago for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign before turning. USAA did not increase my rates from this ticket, but I am concerned that they might increase my rates if they find out about the latest ticket. Should I plead not guilty and have a trial date set to fight this, or just pay the fine and pray that USAA doesn't pick it up? Does anyone else have experience with two minor traffic violations within one year and USAA auto rates?

I do not have my license yet, only my permit. My dad is willing to pay for monthly insurance until I get my license and take my 5 hour driving course and the 6 hour defensive driving course. We both want my rate to be as low as possible for a 17 year old girl in a red car. >.< So, how would I go about getting insurance? The last time I went to look up rates.. My dad FLIPPED, telling me he doesn't want the insurance companies to know that there's an underaged driver in the house, because they'll think I'm driving his truck. (I most certainly AM NOT. It's too much vehicle for too small a girl. I nearly crashed it just about every time I drove it. I drive my mom's car, her friend's jeep, and my grandma's car.) So... Looks like looking up rates are out of the question. Any help?

So I live in Massachusetts, going to school in Utah this summer. I'm not under parents policy, and have to start my own policy. The thing is that I found a good deal but it's in Arizona. With a Mass driver's license, Can I buy a Utah insurance to cover the AZ registered car, before I got it registered in Utah? See I have 2 twists here, Mass resident wanna drive a AZ registered car in Utah. of course I will have to change the title/ registration under my name, but I'm asking how should I cover insurance before the car gets completely legit in Utah. Hope you can understand my problem. PS: I know I don't have to convert to a Utah License, but I can if it's absolutely necessary.

Why is there such a discrepancy between replacement cost of my house between insurance companies?

My current homeowner's insurance has the replacement cost of my home at $189,000. I've been shopping for insurance and I've gotten estimates anywhere from $250,000 to $700,000. Other agents say I am way under-insured. When I asked my current agent why they set the replacement cost so low, the agent said that I do not have to replace it with the exact same brick Victorian house, I can get a nice modular home for even less than $189,000. My question is why there is such a variation in replacement costs between agencies and why the current broker seems to think I deserve less than I have now?

Well im 18 and I work a full time job to help my mom pay the bills. I live in Illinois I have a 97 oldsmobile, I have my insurance slip, but i haven't paid it for 3 months, so when i get pulled over, i show the cop it and im fine, well now I smashed some ones car and am paying the price This is the story on what happened. On Friday the16th it was -20ish out wise whit the the wild chill, it was horrible cold, I was Driving on a road that was 45 mph and i was going 30ish maybe 35, There was a car accident next to us, the girl infrount of me freaked out and slammed on her breaks, I hit mine and I just sled, there was nothing i could do i pumbed my breaks and all, i hit her at about 7 mph, my car was messed up, hood wouldn't close lights broken bumper broken, but i deserved it for not having insurance, anyways, on her car (06 Toyota ) her bumper was Cracked, When it hap pend she got out of the car and say she was sorry like 10 times and said she had no choice but to stop, Witch is understandable Long story short, i gave the cop my insurance card that im not insured with any more he wrote our info down and we went our separate ways, yesterday i two messages from her insurance Company, What would be the next step i should take and what will happen, will i need to go to court? will my drivers license get sespended?
